"Rose Stern is about to move to Australia! But first, she presents a show of paintings from her last nine years in Houston! Stern is interested in how we communicate ideas through images and how the meaning of an image can change over time. Committed to hyperrealism, narrative painting, and traditional still-life motifs, Stern explores the contradictions, secrets, silent power, and distortions of visual language. With the help of many friends, Stern will transform her house and home studio into a temporary gallery space for you to explore.
Stern completed a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Painting and Art History from the University of Wisconsin in 2008 and a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Houston in 2017. She has been Adjunct Art Faculty at the Katherine G. McGovern College of the Arts at the University of Houston for the past eight years, teaching Drawing, Painting, and Watercolor. In 2021 she accepted the Media and Moving Image Teaching Prize for Innovated Uses of Media. The City of Houston Airport System recently acquired her work."
